It's A Happy Day

Alles Gute zum Geburtstag General von Steuben!
(Happy Birthday General von Steuben!)

yes folks, today is General "Baron" Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben's birthday! He was born in 1730 so that makes today his...279th birthday! :love:

I say "baron" because von Steuben wasn't really a baron and he didn't actually serve as a lt. general under Frederick the Great in Prussia. Yes, he is in essence a 'fraud' however, without him, the Continental Army would have epic failed at Valley Forge and the battles afterward. Von Steuben drilled the men so they could move as one and not get shot so easily. However, since he did not know English (although he did know German and French) he had a hard time training the men and was forced to ask his aides to swear at the men in English for him after he had sworn at them in French and German :giggle:

so...yeah :)
